TURA: A massive cyclone hit Rongara C&RD Block, around thirty-five kilometers from Baghmara in South Garo Hills last Thursday, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake as it destroyed over fifty houses and several rubber and cashew plantations.

Around fifty plus households were rendered homeless by the cyclone but no loss of life was reported.

Immediate aid and relief could not be reached to the affected villages mainly because of road blockades caused by avalanches during the cyclone and partly because officers were on leave for Good Friday and Easter.

This is the second time in as many weeks that a cyclone has hit the region.

The first cyclone that struck the region was last week in Kanai several kilometers from Rongara on the way to Balpakram National Park (BNP).
