SHILLONG: Instilling ‘Hope’ to the hopeless, ‘Peace’ to the restless and inculcating ‘Love’ for all is the intention of the Reach Shillong Ministries (RSM), a Church-based voluntary organization.

The organisation which works for three targeted groups – street children, female sex workers and ‘misguided’ youth spread the message of hope through street plays, cleaning drives besides others.

On the eve of Easter, the RSM organized programmes called “Easter Outreach – There’s Hope in Christ” on the eve of Easter Sunday and “Reach to the Homeless” on Good Friday.

In accordance with this observation, the RSM conducted cleaning drive at Khyndai Lad here on Saturday which was taken up jointly by RSM volunteers and students of Seven Set School Shillong.

The cleaning drive was then followed by a street play at Khyndai Lad junction. The play based on the title “There’s Hope in Christ” portrayed the character of a ‘misguided’ person who later become a changed man.

On this day, sweets, juice, biscuits, tea and Bible (free of cost) were distributed to all passers-by including taxi drivers and passengers at Khyndai Lad area.

“We see that people these days tend to lose hope in life. We organized this programme on Easter to spread the message of love, peace and hope to all,” RSM founder, Rev Rueben G Laloo said.

The RSM which works for the cause of street children and the underprivileged has been dedicating their services in many ways which include distributing free medicines and food to the “children of lesser God” at its temporary shelter home – Lawei Baphyrnai or “Bright Future” every Saturday at Umpling.

It is learnt that the RSM has opened its project counseling centre (PCC) which acts as a counseling for depressed youth at Laitumkhrah Cherlys Deplex.

The RSM will open five schools under SSA scheme in various parts of the city to provide education to children below 14 years.
