SHILLONG: The UDP is likely to announce its first list of candidates for the State Assembly elections due in 2013 on April 23.
“We will announce around 12 to 15 names in the first phase,” UDP Working President Paul Lyngdoh said after a meeting of the party’s State Election Committee (SEC) here on Monday.
When asked about the number constituencies the party is planning to contest, he said, “If possible the party this time would like to contest in all the 60 constituencies.”
Stating that of late the regional parties have been voted to power in several states, he said the UDP is ready to take over the reigns of the State if voted to power in 2013 Assembly elections.
Lyngdoh informed that the party has also decided to step up its campaign by projecting its various plans and programmes if elected to power. Meanwhile, he said that the party has also sought clarifications from the party legislators- Remington Pyngrope and Metbah Lyngdoh- over their reported move to join Congress “Both the legislators have asserted that they have no intention to associate themselves with the Congress,” Lyngdoh added.
