SHILLONG: The ongoing beautification work of Khyndailad has failed to make much headway.

The project, which was initiated by the Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma last year, till date seems to have made not much progress.

The delay in the commissioning of the project has only added misery to the people who visit Khyndailad everyday.

Incessant rain in the last few days has worsened the situation.

A frequent visitor on Tuesday said, “It is high time that the Government speed up the project or else people will have a terrible time in visiting the most glamorous area of the city.”

Reliable sources, meanwhile, said that the now there is some problem with the inter-locking tiles meant for laying in the entire stretch of Khyndailad.

According to sources, the PWD officers who are implementing the project are also not happy with the material for channel dock to be laid in the area.

The idea behind the project was to make walking attractive in the area as no vehicle would be allowed to enter the stretch once the beautification process is completed.

The earlier deadline for the completion of the beautification project was before the monsoon, and now the deadline has been further extended to the month of October.
