ANVC breakaway group confirms split

 SHILLONG: The vertical split in the ANVC is now confirmed. Former leader of the ANVC (ceasefire group), Torik Jangning Marak has announced that he has joined the breakaway faction of the ANVC and presently camping in the jungles of Garo Hills.

In a statement e-mailed to media houses on Wednesday, Marak said, “I have made a decision to be with my boys who have stood with me during my hard times. If it was not for Mokus (chief of the breakaway group) and his team, I would have been dead by now.”

Marak also claimed that he is taking up a new responsibility for his cadres who have sacrificed a lot for the cause of a ‘Greater Garoland’.

“I see a new mission before me and will make sure that all these cadres are led on the right path. I will ensure changes in terms of development and progress takes place in all these areas,” Marak added.

It may be mentioned that around 300 cadres are believed to be part of the breakaway faction of the ANVC.

Meanwhile, joint secretary of the ANVC (breakaway group) Rangdo R Marak, in a statement issued to media houses warned all patrons of GNLA to desist from supporting or providing financial assistance to the GNLA.

“If they support GNLA they will be banished from the Garoland territory. This goes for all politicians, businessmen, Nokma, NGOs or individuals,” he added.

Rangdo also advised the GNLA to surrender before it is too late for them.
