SHILLONG: East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Vijay Mantri on Saturday informed that Assam police have already started their investigation in the killing of Officer-in-Charge of the Bajengdoba police outpost in East Garo Hills, Sub Inspector BD Sangma, by a mob in Kachimari-Garopara village in Goalpara, Assam on Thursday night.

“I have also been informed that the Assam police have already registered a case in this connection,” Mantri said on Saturday, while adding that Meghalaya Police cannot get itself involved in the case since the Sub-Inspector was killed in Assam territory.

“We have to depend on the Assam police for the investigation. I would personally remain in touch with the Goalpara Deputy Commissioner to keep track of the status of the investigation,” the Deputy Commissioner said.

It may be mentioned that Sub Inspector BD Sangma and retired police Havildar Jwel Sangma were grievously injured when they were attacked by a mob after the police vehicle they were in, had dashed against and injured a cyclist at Kachimari-Garopara village in Goalpara.

The injured police official was taken to the Goalpara Civil Hospital but he was declared ‘brought dead’ by the doctors.
