‘Long break did not serve us well’

 SHILLONG: After crushing to their fifth successive defeat on Sunday, Shillong Lajong FC coach Pradhyum Reddy said that the long break after the East Bengal match did not go well with the Reds.

“We were on a high at that point and going into the break killed our momentum. Besides we had some injury issues as well” Reddy said in a post match press conference.

“Having said that, I take the blame for the losses. The planning for the break should have been better. Playing some needless friendly matches did not help us much in terms of injuries to players,”Reddy added.

Talking about the match, Reddy said that three goals should have been enough to win an I-League match.

“We gave away goals cheaply everytime we scored. While we had to work very for our share (of goals) the opposition got away easily,” Reddy said.

Meanwhile, Prayag United coach Sanjoy Sen lauded his boys for the excellent after they were down 1-2 in the first half.

“We are fighting for the top five position. So the victory means a lot to us,” Sen said.

The Prayag coach added that defensive lapses on part of Lajong cost them the match.

“Host midfielders did not help their defenders,” Sen pointed out.

man of the match Josimar Martins said that he was happy to score a hat-trick which contributed to his team’s victory.

“It’s a good feeling to score a hat-trick against a good side like Lajong,” Martins told The Shillong Times.
