Editor,

To form an NGO or to be a member of one has become a fashion nowadays. Does one follow his or her heart’s desire to genuinely help the helpless or is this a way to usher oneself into the lime light and satisfy their publicity hunger. Well , as far as I know, to be a member of a recognised NGO, not to mention of forming one, a member is expected to know or rather should be well informed of the legal provisions about what constitutes rape or any other crimes relating to women and children which the organisation is ostensibly representing.

It is a shame and an embarrassment to the society that a women ‘s NGO which is supposed to protect the victim who is just a minor , instead is ready to garland the culprit. Doesn’t the NGO leader know that children at that age can be easily misled or lured into doing something which they are not fully aware whether of. Hence the guilt lies on the other person who committed the crime as he is a mature adult who knows what’s right and wrong.

 Bane of Corruption

 Editor,

‘Bane of corruption’ is a provoking editorial ( ST March 29,2012) Corruption is the overriding bane of the UPA –I and II regimes. This has sunk deep into the system of the regime mainly because it is a helpless regime comprising up of a mixture of opposites and also because of coalition compulsions. Most importantly because the Prime Minister Dr M M Singh, though he is called Mr Clean is helplessly weak to take timely and appropriate actions against the wrong doers within his government. Again, Dr Singh is just the head of the Executive and not the head of the Congress Party and also that of the UPA. The country has already started doubting his clean image because so many corruption cases have occurred during his stewardship for which he is bearing the brunt.

With this kind of image, the Congress can ill-afford to keep him as the front horse for Prime ministership in the race to the elections -2014, which is drawing nigh. The party has enough reserved horses in its ranch to pick and choose from as prime ministerial candidate for the ensuing MP elections. Topping the list is the young man, Rahul Gandhi. But does the Congress rank and file have faith and confidence in him? If yes, then can India reposes its faith in him as the Messiah who will take the country to the foreseeable future, when the dynamics in the world are fast changing?

 Understanding history

 Editor,

The acknowledgement by Mr. Dkhar in your esteemed daily (ST 9th April, 2012) is highly appreciated. Firstly I would thank him for clearing up the confusion pertaining to Motinagar (now Lumdiengsoh) and Lumpyngngad. Secondly, I’m not in a stand to debate the meaning of history. Mr. Dkhar questioned earlier that who Moti(ram) was? My last letter in this column was an answer to that. To make a conclusion on the same is left to the readers. Let us all go by the words of Mr. Dkhar to preserve the local indigenous name, Lumpyngngad.

Yours etc.
