Sumo

A New Delhi tourist visiting the city for the first time boarded a sumo maxi taxi to Guwahati.

The tourist was not aware that such taxis are available at the parking yard opposite Anjalee Cinema Hall or opposite Hotel Mi Casa in Keating Road. He instead took an empty running maxi taxi from IGP Point and was rotated as many as five times before finally embarking for Guwahati.

The tourist had no clue and thought he was on his way out of the city until he recognized some familiar places “After two rounds, I realized I was taken for a ride and asked the driver why on earth he is going back to the city.

The driver casually replied that he was in search of passengers. The tourist later threatened the sumo driver that he would get down and get another taxi. Fortunately for the tourist the driver managed some passengers after having rotated round the city six times.

The moral of this incident is for tourists never to hire a running sumo maxi taxi or they might just suffer a “head-spin”.

 Overjoyed

The Indo-Bangla joint celebration of Tagore’s 150th Birth Anniversary recently held at the U Soso Tham Auditorium is an event to remember.

Deputy Chief Minister, BM Lanong was the chief guest on the occasion while Manas Chaudhuri, MLA was the guest of honor with a host of other dignitaries. Before the start of the program – where a cultural troupe from neighboring Bangladesh presented a musical evening of music, poetry and recitation – the dignitaries were presented with bouquets.

As luck would have it, when Mr Lanong was handed the bouquet the flowers came out and he was left only with the holder in his hand. The glitzy plastic holder had a pink ribbon on it and it was in Mr Lanong’s hand even as the girl who presented the bouquet hurriedly collected the flowers and put them back in the holder.

But the minister was witty and handled the situation adroitly. During his speech Lanong said he was so overjoyed at the prospect of witnessing the troupe from Bangladesh that the flowers jumped out of the holder.

This left the audience in splits. Later after the program the cultural troupe was also presented with bouquets. But one member was left out due to shortage of bouquets.

Later a bouquet was conjured from out of nowhere and the member received a bouquet after all. Strange incident indeed!

 Rs10.10p

A city based resident was overjoyed when she got a cheque from a dish TV company. She opened the envelope enthusiastically thinking that it would contain a handsome amount.

But imagine her grief when she saw the cheque amount of Rs10.10p. She said that the envelope had a stamp in it for Rs 25 whereas the amount inside did not even cover the cost of the stamp.

The woman said she is not a Tata Sky user and nor has she applied for any connection.

She thought it was one of those lucky draws which bring unexpected good fortune.

“How does one deposit Rs 10.10 in a bank?” the lady asked. Her friends wonder from where such “lotteries” originate. Heaven alone knows.
