SHILLONG: One Bremilla K Sangma has forged documents and made six fake birth certificates in the name of six fictitious children to claim the pension benefits of Amita Sangma, a resident of Mawblei, Madanrting. This matter got revealed through an RTI recently but Amita is yet to get her pension benefits as her case is pending legal settlement in the court.
Amita in her FIR dated August 12, 2010 addressed to the Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime), East Khasi Hills said she is the legal nominee of her late husband Nitrosen D Sangma, Ex-Naik, Civil Defence and Home Guards, Mawdiangdiang.
But Bremilla claimed that she is the wife of Amita’s husband and brought in a fake marriage certificate and birth certificate of six children – Martha K Sangma, Clarena K Sangma, Euster K Sangma, Transwina K Sangma, Waljrung K Sangma and Arbister K Sangma.
Interestingly an RTI application filed by Agnes Kharshiing, President, CSWO then had revealed that all the birth certificates were forged. The birth certificate of Martha is actually that of Bilnath D Marak (Registration No. 426), Waljrung’s is that of Jeselina GM (Registration No. 430), Transwina’s is that of Sajiston Momin (Registration No. 429), Arbister’s that of Dalseng Momin (Registration No. 428), Clarena K Sangma’s that of Rakush Arengh (Registration No. 427) while that of Euster is not traceable. The registration numbers are all forged as the original birth certificates were issued by Dainadubi PHC whereas the fake ones were made by Bremilla through the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Meghalaya with a seal of Dainadubi CHC. All the children that Bremilla claims as her own were born in a place called Kentra according to the birth certificates.
“When verified against the original birth certificates it was detected that the forms contained different information and particulars,” Amita said in her FIR. She also alleged that Bremilla in connivance with one RD Sangma along with some government officials and other unknown persons had made these false certificates in order to cheat and cause wrongful loss to her and misappropriate the pension amount and other debts and securities, which she is legally entitled to. “They have also created fake evidence to use in the court of law,” she alleged.
Meanwhile, the Director, Health Services (MCH & FW) and Chief Registrar of Births and Deaths, Shillong in his Letter No. DHS/MCH/DEMO/RTI/19/09/4028 dated July 29, 2010 addressed to the President, CSWO said that the birth certificate produced by Bremilla K Sangma and her six children do not appear to be genuine. “After thorough investigation, it was found that the same had been manufactured by some person(s) for their selfish gains. Departmental proceedings have been initiated against the errant official. Instruction has been issued to all District Medical and Health offices to check recurrences of such incidents in future,” said the Director in the letter.
Amita claimed that Bremilla brought out the death certificate of her husband through unfair means with the help of her lawyer after getting important documents from the DC’s office to show that she is the successor of her late husband. The Registration No. of the death certificate of Amita’s husband is 22/2009 dated January 16, 2009. The Senior Medical and Health Officer, Rynjah State Dispensary said that the death certificate was issued to Amita on January 27, 2009 bearing Registration No. 22/2009 dated January 16, 2009 and was received by Amita vide her signature on the register. “This goes a long way in proving that Bremilla has forged all my documents in order to reap the pension benefits of my husband,” said Amita.
With her pension case now pending in court, Amita says she is a destitute with no means of feeding her six children. “I appeal to the court of law to do justice to my case as the RTI has revealed the evil deeds of Bremilla K Sangma and her accomplices. Necessary action should also be taken to seize the licenses of those who despite upholding the dignity of law have used it unfairly,” urged Amita.
