The taxi stand operating bang on the middle of the Laitumkhrah Police Point junction may have existed for a long time now, but now the time has come for the stand to be shifted to a more appropriate location to de-congest the busy junction.
Since there is a hospital nearby, this junction is a busy traffic zone at all hours of the day and shifting of the stand would go a long way towards easing the congestion in the area.
Addl SP (Traffic) Herbert Lyngdoh, when contacted, said that the parking lot is situated there since ‘donkey years’.
“Earlier many taxis used to be parked there but now we allow only 12 vehicles at a time,” he said, while adding that the cabs at the stand mostly cater to patients and their relatives who have to come to a hospital located in the vicinity.
On the presence the transformer right on the middle of the road, Lyngdoh said they have sent a proposal to the Government to remove the electric machinery from the junction and convert the entire area into a rotary. “We have already sent the proposal and Government is working on it,” he added.
