Awareness on disaster management at Baghmara

 BAGHMARA: A mass awareness programme on Disaster Management organized by the South Garo Hills Administration in collaboration with Civil Defence, Tura and the Police department, was held on the Government Secondary School premises, Baghmara on Tuesday.

The programme aimed at involvement of the general public to minimize and mitigate loss of life and property in the event of a disaster.

Speaking on the occasion, South Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner in charge, RP Marak, informed the gathering on the objective of the awareness programme and said that the North East region was categorized under Zone Five as an earthquake-prone area and therefore the people of the region should be prepared for eny eventuality.

Mainora M Sangma, Deputy Controller in charge, Civil Defence, Tura, spoke on ‘Search and Rescue’ and the involvement of the people in such operations after a disaster.

Later, a team of Civil Defence and Home Guards personnel demonstrated various life-saving methods and techniques for the benefit of the public.
