SHILLONG: The State Government has allotted the work for construction of 13 road projects under Phase VI of the Pradhan Mantri Graham Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).

A senior PWD official on Tuesday informed that Rs 37 crore has been earmarked for the 13 road projects.

He however informed that the four projects under Phase VI in Garo Hills has been retendered adding that they would be opening the bid of the tendering process on April 30.

According to an official source, the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the various road projects under Phase VII of the PMGSY amounting to Rs 200 crore are being prepared.

“We would soon be submitting the DPRs to the Union Ministry of Rural Development for fund” he said.

Replying to a query, he said that there are a number of projects which are still under progress under Phase II, III, IV and V.

It may be mentioned that the State would receive approximately Rs 1070 crore over a period of five years (2010-2015) through the World Bank funding to construct rural roads under PMGSY.

A government official said that the State will have to utilise around Rs 200 crore annually to be able to capitalise on the funds being provided by the World Bank.

When asked about the tentative deadline given by the Union Ministry for completion of the PMGSY projects, the official said that normally, at the Centre would give 18 months to complete the earthwork and black topping of the road.Taking into account that State has only about four to six months of working period in a year, he said that the State would restrict only to earthwork for project which is of a very huge length adding that the black topping of the road would be included in the Phase VII and VIII. “But for roads having a smaller length, we would do the earthwork and blacktopping both at the same time,” he added.
