JOWAI: A devastating fire destroyed an Assam-type house belonging to one Riew Ryngkhlem at Wapungskur village in Jaintia Hills district on Wednesday.

According to sources, Rs. 7 lakh in cash, gold ornaments besides other costly household items were destroyed in the incident.

Sources said that fire tenders could not reach the spot on time due to traffic jam in Ladrymbai and Mookhep.
