JOWAI: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising the Local Coal Supplier Association (LCSA) and the Jaintia Coal, Cement Traders and Driver Association (JCCTDA) have strongly opposed to the attitude of various cement plants in Jaintia Hills District.

The JAC has informed that all cements plants located in Jaintia hills are buying coal directly from coal traders.

According to JAC President, Balen Thubru such action of cement companies has badly affected local suppliers and truck owners.

The JAC held a meeting on Thursday and resolved to ban any direct purchase of coal by cement companies from coal traders.

The JAC has also asked all cement companies to immediately stop the purchase of coal directly.

“From Monday next, we will not allow any direct purchase of coal by cement companies”, Thubru said.

Meanwhile, the JAC has resolved to ban buying of coal from outside the district unless prior negotiation is done between the Cement Plants Authorities and the JAC.

“No companies should buy coal by itself. If companies require any quantity and quality of coal from other parts of Meghalaya outside Jaintia hills, Cement Companies should first discuss the matter with the Committee”, the JAC said.
