MUA Govt to bring out performance report card

By Our Reporter

SHILLONG: After wresting power from DD Lapang in 2009, Dr Mukul Sangma completes his second year as Chief Minister with almost no hiccups.

To create public awareness about the achievements of his Government Dr Sangma said a performance report card would be released by the Government on April 25 at an official function.

Addressing media persons here on Friday about the overall performance of the Government in the last two years, the Chief Minister said, “We are embarking upon new ideas of institutionalizing development plans.”

Dr Sangma said the thrust of the MUA Government is to introspect and re-assess itself to see whether the Government has been able to keep its promises.

Though the MUA Government has initiated some developmental projects and flagship programmes some pockets of the state are afflicted by insurgency. The Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) is having a free run of the land particularly in South and East Garo Hills.

Commenting on the insurgency problem, the Chief Minister reiterated that there is no quick fix solution to insurgency. He said the Government is trying its best to address the root cause of insurgency in the State.

The Chief Minister also lashed out at the GNLA for piggy-back riding on the issue of a separate state for Garos.

“There is no justification for the GNLA to propound the issue of a separate state only to camouflage their criminal activities,” he added.

While highlighting the different flagship programmes, Sangma said that the Government needs to ensure that its delivery system is improved.

“There are certain deficiencies in the system and we are trying to address this issue,” Dr Sangma added.

When asked about the interminable delays in several developmental projects the Chief Minister said that some projects do take time to take off and some projects are delayed not because Government is sitting idle but because there are several inputs that go into the final implementation of the project.

Meghalaya is notorious for its political instability and frequent change of guard but Mukul Sangma has had a smooth sailing for two years and claims that his Government is stable.

“We will not waste our time in political quibbling but we will spend quality time to serve the people,” Sangma added.
