Agartala: Opposition leader Ratan Lal Nath demanded immediate steps for filling up 40,000 vacant posts in different government departments keeping in mind of unemployed problem in Tripura.

Lashing out at the government for low generation of employment in the government sector, Nath said that over 40,000 posts remained vacant for years but there was no move to fill up the vacant posts.

Out of total vacant posts, at least 9727 posts in Education department, 2528 in Police, 1358 in Panchayat and 1065 posts in PWD are lying vacant since long time, he said at a press conference here on Friday.

“The government could not complete the appointment process of filling up 4429 under graduate teachers even after initiating the move in the year 2002 though of late it has issued offers of appointment of Science Graduate”, he said.

Nath said the government had not followed its own appoint policy as the quality was grossly ignored in the recently selected Science Gradate teachers.

About 44000 posts had been abolished during the last 19 years while only 19000 posts were revived due to pressure from the opposition in the year 1906-97 FY, he said adding that there was no appointment of teachers in primary level since 1997.

Hammering the CPM Left Front government feigning on fresh appoint, Nath made it clear that there was no bar on fresh appointment on the part of the Centre. “The Centre has been pumping money against all vacant posts and it’s the duty of the state to fill up the vacant post”, he said.

Noting that over 49,000 government employees went on retirement during the last 19 years, Nath said, “The government is deliberately cheating the job seekers citing various half-truth reasons”.

Nath also mentioned the observant of CAG report which put question mark on the selection process of various government jobs during the period 2006-2007. The CAG in its report observed that the state had comprised with quality in the process of new appoint (7399) during the period. It may be noted that the number of job seekers stands at 6, 23,000 in the state.

Nath also promised that all vacant posts would be filled up by one year if the Congress is voted to power in the next Assembly elections.

However, the Congress is of view of not comprising with the quality while selecting candidates for teaching job.
