Kohima: Ceasefire agreement between the Centre and GPRN/NSCN (Khole-Kitovi) has been extended for another year, but the extension of Ceasefire between the Centre and NSCN (Khaplang) is yet to be finalised.
According to sources here today, there were two separate meetings of the GPRN/NSCN (Khole-Kitovi) group and the NSCN (Khaplang) group on the extension of ceasefire agreements, which is to expire today, with the Central government representatives yesterday.
In a press release issued by the ‘Ministry of Information and Publicity (MIP)’, GPRN/NSCN confirmed the extension of the ceasefire and informed that the representatives of Centre and GPRN/NSCN delegation met in New Delhi and signed a ceasefire agreement for a period of one year.
The ceasefire agreement No 9/4/2000/T, Ministry of Home Affairs, was signed by Mr Shambu Singh, Joint Secretary, and C Singson, Supervisor, Cease Fire Supervisory Board (CFSB) of NSCN and Lt Gen M B Neokpao Konyak, Naga Army Chief.
According to the terms of agreement, the Centre and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (GPRN/NSCN), Nagaland, have mutually decided to enter into a ceasefire agreement with effect from Saturday to bring about a lasting peace in the state of Nagaland ‘with the involvement of the Naga people’.
The Ceasefire Ground Rules will be subject to mutual review and amendment with the involvement of both the parties.
However, sources said the meeting held on Friday between NSCN (K) and representatives of the Centre, could be termed as inconclusive as they could not finalise on ceasefire extension due to differences of opinions on some issues.
Sources said the Central representatives have conveyed their displeasure over NSCN (K) signing a bilateral ceasefire agreement with the Myanmar government.
The Central representatives had also reportedly insisted that the ‘Chief of Naga Army’ of the NSCN (K) should attend the meeting.
The six-member NSCN (K) team was led by their CFSB supervisor Lincoln, sources said. (UNI)
