Allegations of anti-party activities against Congress MP

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has sought a clarification from Union Minister of State for Water Resources and Shillong MP, Vincent H Pala, following several allegations of his involvement in anti-party activities in the State, even as the Mylliem Block Congress Committee disassociated itself from the controversy surrounding Pala.
The State Congress sought the clarification taking into account reports that Pala had been allegedly helping former KSU leader and UDP candidate from Mylliem constituency, Hamlet Dohling, despite the seat being held by Congress legislator Ronnie V Lyngdoh.
The Union Minister of State for Water Resources had also been blamed for allegedly trying to project his own candidates in both Shella and Jirang Assembly constituencies. The allegations were levelled by the Block Congress Committees of the respective constituencies.
“I have personally spoken to Pala on this matter. He (Pala) has denied that he was involved in any anti-party activity or was trying to project his own candidates in different constituencies as is being alleged,” newly-elected MPCC president DD Lapang told reporters.
Lapang also informed that the Union Minister of State has pledged his support to all those candidates nominated by the party for the upcoming 2013 Assembly election in the State.
Meanwhile, the Mylliem Block Congress Committee president Richard Marwein has stated that they have no primary member by the name of Alfred Kharkongor who had come up with the allegation against Pala which was reported in a section of the media.
“This is not the style of our functioning since we follow the party’s policy of discussing all matters within the party if any situation arises,” Marwein stated.
