Acclaimed films to be screened at Guwahati film fest

Guwahati: The second edition of the three-day Guwahati International Short Film Festival (GISFF) will commence from May 4 with the festival theme ‘Breaking Myth’, which will witness screening of acclaimed short films from across the world.

Many acclaimed short films from countries like Spain, the UK, the Netherlands, the USA, Australia, Argentina, Iran as well as all over India will be screened during the festival under sections like World Kaleidoscope, Indian Kaleidoscope, Special Reels – FTII Golden Jubilee Package & Horror Package, Spotlight and Country Focus, the organizers informed today.

A special attraction of the festival will be the North-East India premiere screening of Onir’s National Award-winning ‘I Am’, a compendium of four short films bound by a theme, in the presence of the director himself. The film won the National Awards for the Best Hindi Feature Film and Best Lyrics, and is produced by Anticlock Films.

The opening films for the fest will be ‘Naach Ganesh’ (Dance of Ganesha) by Bikash Ranjan Misra and ‘The Butterfly Circus’ by Joshua Weigel from USA. ‘Naach Ganesh’ was world premiered at 16th Busan International Film Festival while The Butterfly Circus has won numerous awards including Clint Eastwood Award at Carmel Film Festival. Keeping up with the effort to provide a platform to filmmakers from the region, the competitive North-East Shorts section will screen 11 films shortlisted by the selection jury. The fest will also showcase 15 most acclaimed Film and Television Institute Of India’s short films made by students who later on became renowned filmmakers in India. (UNI)
