‘LPG shortage to be overcome in 2-3 weeks’

 SHILLONG: The shortage of LPG cylinders is a never ending problem in Shillong.

The Deputy Commissioner (Supply) Sanjay Goyal while speaking on this issue stated that the shortage has occured due to some maintenance problem in two bottling plants in Guwahati.

“This temporary shortage will be overcome in two-three weeks,” Goyal told reporters here.

The non-availability of LPG cylinders in the city has hit consumers hard and many people complain that they have to wait for many days to get their LPG cylinders.

Sanjay Goyal admitted that some leakage is there in the supply of domestic cylinders in the city which further adds to the shortage of LPG clylinders in Shillong city, adding raids are being conducted in different parts of the city to check on such malpractices.

It may be mentioned that the District administration in the last two months has seized around eighty seven LPG cylinders from different commercial establishments besides an FIR was also filed against Micasa Hotel.

“Once we get any complain we will immediately conduct raids and we will not spare any one who goes against the law,” he added.

According to Goyal, the diostributors have already been warned to adhere to all the norms so that common people do not suffer due to shortage of LPG cylinders.

In the past, many people have also complained that they have to wait for more than a year to get an LPG connection.However, the Deputy Commissioner has asked peple to complain if their connection get delayed.

“It can be delayed for five six months but not more than that and people should complain to us,” he added.
