Training on Red Cell Serology begins in Nagaland

Kohima: Training on Red Cell Serology Techniques conducted by the National Institute of Immunohaematology (ICMR) for Nagaland and Manipur began on Thursday at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima.

According to official sources here today Nagaland Commissioner and Secretary Health and Family Welfare Menukhol John said Nagaland is lagging far behind other states with regard to techniques of blood testing. He said the techniques are highly required because of the prevalence of HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis.

Mr. John expressed happiness that the initiative of the Department has been resulting in rapid forming of Blood Donors Association in various parts of the state. He maintained that the Department has to continue to work towards creating further awareness among the people, because even with the advancement of medical science and serology, till date the substitute for blood could has not been invented.

Deputy Director and Scientist of the ICMR in Mumbai Dr. K. Vasantha said basic training would be provided to the trainees on improvement of blood bank with the basic knowledge. They would also be trained on the facilities and basic aspects of serology, both practical and theoretical. (UNI)
