SHILLONG: In order to create comprehensive training and career opportunities in Information Technology (IT) and IT Enabled Services employment in the state, Symantec Software Solutions Private Limited (SSSPL) and Government of Meghalaya announced a Skill Development Program recently.
Following this training and completion of the course, it is estimated that over 1500 candidates will be benefited from the program as they will qualify for various IT roles and will receive placement assistance through Symantec partners.
The Managing Director, Sales, India and SAARC, SSSPL said that in today’s connected, technology-driven world IT plays an important asset and with this partnership program between SSSPL and Government of Meghalaya, candidates will be empowered as the local talent will be befitted with world class outcome oriented training and resources.
Expressing his hope on the partnership, he further said that it is an opportunity for the company to not only train the state’s youth with key technology skills, which will ensure their future career development, but also to develop a savvy resource pool for the IT industry as a whole.
Informing further he said that the participants who will undergo this 12 month skill development program will experience hands-on, instructor-led classroom training covering the length and breadth of IT operations right from the basic fundamentals to networking, security, data center management, storage, archiving, discovery recovery and availability.
The program will consist of ten courses and will be conducted in three batches with duration of 161 hour for each batch and the courses are basically meant for college students who will seek employment after graduation but is also open to high school graduates. The course has been designed in consultation and agreement with Government of Meghalaya.
Meanwhile, DP Wahlang, Secretary, IT, Meghalaya observed that the skill development program will enable to build a qualified talent pool of resources in the state and will be imperative to attract investment in the IT sector in the state.
He also observed that with the state’s large English speaking population, strong academic infrastructure besides the state’s attractive IT policies and subsidies, the SSSPL-Meghalaya Government initiative will ensure the state’s credibility as a strong player in the IT sector.
He said that SSSPL being a trusted partner and the state’s successful record of working with them in the IT segment, be it from IT change management to IT skill development, has made SSSPL a natural choice.
It may be mentioned that SSSPL will provide end-to-end skill development to the participants and the program will conclude with job fairs where candidates will sit interface with potential employers, including Symantec partners. The courseware, systems, processes will be provided by SSSPL and qualified candidates will be awarded certificates.
