SHILLONG: Sangling Gumba of Mawbah (Barapathar) celebrated Buddha Jayanti — the 2556th Birth anniversary of Lord Buddha, on Sunday.

Thousands of devotees visited the temple to offer their prayers. They offered, fruits, flowers, candles etc to Lord Buddha. The monks recited from the holy scriptures. Khichari, Frooti packets and toffees were distributed to the children on the occasion.

Buddha Jayanti is one of the most awaited festivals among Buddhists all over the world. Buddha Purnima falls on the full moon of the fourth lunar month in April or May.

Three of the most important events in the life of Siddhartha Gautama Buddha, his birth (Buddha Jayanti), his awakening into Buddhahood, and his final passing away, coincide on this auspicious day.
