SHILLONG: Water Resources Minister AL Hek on Tuesday raised serious questions on the cricket ground situated amidst the Polo Sports Complex.

Addressing the gathering after laying the foundation stone for the office building of the Chief Engineer of the Water Resource department at Fruit Garden here on Tuesday, Hek said, “A lot of money has been spent on the cricket ground but where is the cricket ground in real terms?”

Hek added that the government should fix responsibilities on those who are involved as a lot of fund has been pumped into the ground but the cricket ground does not seems to exist.

He also questioned the inordinate delays in several projects in the State like the Jawaharlal Nehru Sports complex, Leshka power project, Crowborough Hotel, Meghalaya House, which he said, has only added to time and cost overrun.

The office building which is being constructed at an estimated budget of over Rs 9 crore is expected to be completed in the next three years.

“Unlike other projects which have been delayed we would like to see this building being constructed within the stipulated time,” he added. According to Hek, the Water Resource department should set an example by completing the project on time.

Senior officers of the Water Resources department also hoped that the upcoming office building would help the department to serve people in a better manner.
