SHILLONG: The Mother’s School, Mother’s Music School (MMS) and Mother’s Dance School organized Tagore’s 151th Birth Anniversary Celebration at the city based Sri Aurobindo Institute of Indian Culture on Saturday.

The major attraction of the evening was guest artist Paromita Deshmukhya, disciple of Pandit Jasraj, who presented few classical scores.

Former educationist and city based dancer, Sandhya Lahiri said that there has been a lot of discussion and program on Tagore over the last one year where we have come to know a lot about the Nobel Laureate.

She said the name and works of Tagore has spread world over and at the recently concluded Tagore Sesquicentenary Celebration at Brookside Mansion, a Syrian research scholar came to pay his respect to the Bard from Bengal.

Sukla Dam, Principal, Smaran Sangeet Vidyalaya said that she adores Tagore more than anybody else. “I have seen people praying to certain god to get their wishes fulfilled. But I have never asked anything from Tagore but he has given me everything,” she said.

Meanwhile, the evening started with two Rabindra Sangeet – “Surer Guru” and “Dariye Aacho Tumi Amar” by Paromita Nag Dey, Music Teacher, MMS and her troupe followed by a dance rendition “Aalokeri Jharna Dhara”, “Aamra Sobai Raja”, “Aay Tobey Sohochari” and “Sawan Gagane”.
