SHILLONG: The GVK EMRI in joint collaboration with Stanford, Department of Emergency Medicine, USA has developed a 5 day program in emergency medicine (DHPT) for District and Sub-District Hospital doctors. The focus is on Government Hospital Doctors, which is a critical strategy to save more lives in PPP framework.
Following the initiative taken by the Health Department, Government of Meghalaya and NRHM, Meghalaya is the first state in the northeast and the fourth state in India (after Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Goa) to have this kind of training. The training will be held at Pasteur Institute, Lawmali from May 14-18 and at Tura Civil Hospital from May 21-25.
The main objective of the DHPT is to train the doctors working in District/Sub-district hospital on essential of emergency medicine including the initial evaluation and stabilization of sick and injured patients. Common emergencies and essential skills will be covered in the 5 day program. Lectures/case studies/video training modules/ hands-on simulation based skills training etc. are the training methods to be used.Training District and Sub-District Hospital doctors in emergency medicine skills will help in continuity of pre-hospital care and save more lives. The program is exclusively developed to suit the needs of emergency patients in low resource settings which a fact common fact in rural India.
It will benefit other emergency patients being attended in all government secondary level health institutions as well. Senior Emergency Medicine Faculty Members, Dr Ayesha Khan, MD from Stanford, Dr Rajanarsing Rao, MD (Anesthesia) and Dr Srinivasa Rao J, Associate Partner from GVK EMRI Hyderabad will be the resource persons for the DHPT.
