SHILLONG: In view of the 12-hour bandh called by the KSU, FKJGP and HNYF, Police have beefed up security in different areas of city as well as other parts of the State.

DGP N Ramachandran on Sunday said that necessary security arrangements have been put in place in vulnerable areas to ensure that law and order is maintained at all cost.

The 12-hour bandh from 5 am to 5 pm will be effective in the four districts of East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, Jaintia Hills and Ri Bhoi.

The DGP mentioned that action would be taken as per law against those who attempt to break the law.

It may be mentioned that some complaints have already been filed against the leaders of the agitating NGOs. Besides, cases have also been registered against them under the Meghalaya Maintenance of Public Order (MMPO) Act.

The earlier spate of night road blockades called by the NGOs had witnessed stray incidents of arson, stone pelting, besides torching of several vehicles and properties.
