NONGPOH: Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly, Conrad Sangma, has swanked that the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will emerge as the single largest party after the 2013 Assembly election in Meghalaya and form the next government.
Addressing a gathering at a meeting held for formation of the new Jirang NCP Block Committee at Byrnihat, Ri Bhoi district on Saturday, Conrad said that many young and dynamic leaders are joining the party in the State as they have seen that NCP is the viable alternative to form the government.
Conrad ridiculed the Congress as being a party which does not know who its leader is and what they will do.
“The State Congress is a party with four different camps – Lapang Congress, Mukul Congress, Pala Congress and Charles Congress,” Conrad said.
“We want to take advantage of the confusion in the Congress party. Therefore we are going early and we will do our works in a straight manner to ensure that the NCP emerged victorious in the next Assembly election,” he said.
During the meeting, Conrad announced the names of Salesian Sohtun (Jirang), Cornilus Nongbri (Ranikor) and sitting JHADC MDC Stephen Mukhim (War Jaintia) as party candidates for the 2013 Assembly polls.
On the national political scenario, NCP spokesperson James Sangma said that in the face of Congress being crippled with corruption and scam related cases and the BJP is facing leadership crisis, the Third Front will form the government after the 2014 general elections in the country and NCP supremo Sharad Pawar will become the Prime Minister.
On the forthcoming Assembly election, James exuded confidence that the NCP will form the government in the State as the Congress is facing a leadership crisis with many MLAs eager to occupy the Chief Minister’s chair.
He appealed to the party workers to dedicate themselves as to ensure the victory of party candidate Salesian Sohtun from Jirang constituency.
State NCP president Dr. WR Kharlukhi informed that the Jirang NCP Block Committee will have Salesian Sohtun as president, John Marak as working president, Nikel R Marak as general secretary, Bimal Saikia and G Wahlang as vice presidents, P Khongmalai as organizing secretary and S Wahlang as assistant organizing secretary.
