RS stalled on issue of ‘persecution’ of Hindus in Pak

New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha was on Thursday deadlocked for 35 minutes on the issue of alleged persecution of minority Hindus in Pakistan with the Opposition BJP demanding discussion on the issue on a priority basis and Government not agreeable.

The House was adjourned three times for 35 minutes in all–ten minutes (first adjournment), again for ten minutes (second adjournment) and 15 minutes (third adjournment).

The matter came up after the House re-assembled at 1400 hrs post lunch to take up further discussion on the Statutory Motion on Information Technology (Intermediaries Guidelines) Rules, 2011. As soon as the House reassembled, EMS Nachiappan of the Congress got up to speak on the Statutory Motion.

Vinay Katiyar (BJP) requested the Chair to let the discussion on Information Technology be completed and the issue of Pak Hindus taken up immediately after that.

However, Vice-Chairman P J Kurien said another Bill was slated to be debated after the Information Technology and the issue of Pak Hindus would be taken up after that.

He saId the leaders of all political parties had already agreed to such an arrangement at the informal meeting in the morning. No BJP leader had raised the issue that time.

They alleged that the Government was treating ”such an important issue” very lightly. (UNI)
