NONGSTOIN: A day after Assam police personnel demolished the Dorbar Hall of the Hima Raid Mynsaw at Langpih, a Magistrate of West Khasi Hills district along with the SDPO of Mairang and the OC of Nongstoin Police Station visited the area to access the situation.

Meanwhile, in a fresh instance of ‘muscle flexing’ by Assam Police on Sunday, two teachers hailing from Langpih – one Ms Linaris and the other who was yet to be identified – were injured during a lathi-charge by the Assam Police.

The incident took place just before the arrival of the Meghalaya officials at Langpih, when the two ladies intervened when the Assam Police personnel were attempting to destroy the memorial built in memory of the four Khasi villagers who were shot dead by Assam Police in 2010.

The memorial was built by the Hima Raid Mynsaw of Langpih.

Also the Assam Police personnel pulled down all the signboards of shops which had West Khasi Hills written on them. They collected all the signboards and set them on fire while indicating that Langpih belonged to Assam.

West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, while speaking to this scribe, stated that it was not possible to take immediate action against what had transpired on Sunday as the officials and troops from Assam did not provide any information regarding the destruction and they had come to Langpih all of a sudden.
