JOWAI: While the Government has been to quick to respond to the Supreme Court order banning tinted glass on vehicles, non-implementation of another verdict of the Apex Court—restricting the load carried by trucks—has the Jaintia Coal-Cement Trucks and Drivers’ Association (JCCTDA) fuming.

The JCCTDA has threatened to file a contempt of Court against the Transport Department and the State Government for violation of the Supreme Court verdict on the restriction of load capacity of coal laden trucks in Jaintia hills District.

Speaking to this correspondent, the JCCTDA President, Balen Thubru said that overloaded coal-laden trucks still ply on the National Highway (NH44) from Jaintia hills to Beltola and Panch Gram in Assam.

The weighbridges set up by the Transport Department in different parts of the NH has failed to check such violation, the JCCTDA alleged

“We have enough evidence to file a contempt of Court against the Government ”, Thubru said.

“We will wait for some time to see if the government initiates any action. Else the Association has to move the issue to the Supreme Court”, he added.

The JCCTDA pointed out that it is in the interest of the State that the ban is implemented as the government loses heavily in terms of revenue following the unrestricted coal-laden trucks that ply the roads.
