Inclusion under Mawkyrwat District

From Our Correspondent

NONGSTOIN: The creation of four new districts in the State has not gone well with several villages which would now fall under the newly created Mawkyrwat District.

Though the decision to create the new districts has been largely welcomed, villagers from Mawkhan Pambeh, Langlew, Marngor, Mawblei, Phyllut, Mawkhan Wahkwang have expressed their reservations on the matter.

Charlesstone Sohshang, Secretary of the Joint Dorbar Marngor Area Organization said that these six villages fall under Mawthadraishan Block and that the distance from these villages from Mawkyrwat is

twice to that from Nongstoin.

“There is no direct road from these villages to Mawkyrwat and to go there they have to cross a bridge over the Kynshi River which could be a difficlut task during the rainy season,” Sohshang said.

The secretary also said that they would meet Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on the Thursday to request the Government to reconsider their inclusion in the newly created Mawkyrwat Sohshang. “If no consensus is reached, we would have no choice but to stage a hunger strike in front of the Main Secretariat at Shillong,” he added.
