Pune: Anti-Corruption crusader Anna Hazare, who is on a state-wide tour. under the banner of his Bhrashtachar Virodhi Jan Andolan (BVJA), has been advised rest by his doctor following complaints of back pain.

Talking to UNI here, Advocate Milind Pawar, a close aide of Hazare, said the Gandhian leader has cancelled his tour of Nandurbar district, scheduled for on Wednesday, on the advice of his doctor.

Hazare’s routine health check-up was being conducted in a private hospital on Wednesday in Nashik due to the back pain, Pawar said.

Except for Nandurbar, his tour will continue in the state, said Pawar who spoke to Hazare this morning.

He said Hazare will hold a public rally in Pune on May 25 as part of his five week Maharashtra tour. He will be covering 35 districts in the state to create public awareness for a strong Lokayukta legislation.

The rally will be held at Pune Muncipal Corporation’s Samrat Ashok Vidyalaya’s Ground in Karve Nagar in the evening on Friday, said Pawar. The activist has appealed to non-governmental organisations and youth to support him in large numbers. Alauddin Sheikh, state secretary of BVJA, said though the organisation has not sought any additional police protection, about 1015 guards from a private firm will be deputed for his rallies here. ‘These guards are from a private firm. We will appoint them in Pune where Hazare’s rallies are expected to attract large number of people,’ said Sheikh.

Anna will further procced to Solapur from Pune, he said. A report from Nashik said that Hazare had a routine general check-up at Shri Sai Baba Heart Foundation in Nashik city this afternoon.

Cardiologists Dr Amit Sinkar and Dr Abhaysingh Walia checked him and conducted various tests, from 1130 hrs to 1330 hrs.

Dr Sinkar said Anna’s health was excellent and he got himself checked up before undertaking his future programme.

The Hospital director Dr Aniruddha Dharmadhikari is close to Hazare and hence, he (Anna) undergoes a check up in Shri Sai Baba Heart Foundation whenever he is in Nashik.(UNI)
