SHILLONG: In the wake of the recent imbroglio at the disputed territory at Langpih, the deputy commissioners of West Khasi Hills district, Meghalaya and Kamrup district of Assam will conduct coordinated visits to avoid any further tension along the inter-state border areas including at Langpih.
The decision to this effect was taken at the Chief Secretary level meeting held at Guwahati on Thursday which was attended by Meghalaya Chief Secretary WMS Pariat and his Assam counterpart PC Sharma, besides other government officials of both the states.
The all-important meeting between the two states also dwelt on the different areas of difference.
Both Meghalaya and Assam have decided that the development works in the disputed areas would be taken up after consultation and intimation by each deputy commissioner with his counterpart.
Both states also decided to explore the local-level mechanism consisting of different communities for undertaking development works along the disputed territories.
The Assam Government has also assured that it will respond shortly regarding the twelve areas of difference between two states after which the next round of Chief Secretary level talks will be held.
It may be mentioned that the situation worsened in Langpih after Assam police personnel demolished the dorbar hall of the Hima Raid Mynsaw at Langpih and made a failed attempt to demolish the memorial which was built in memory of the four Khasi villagers who were killed in firing by Assam police in May, 2010.
