Emu birds distributed

 SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department, BM Lanong distributed Emu birds under the Special Plan Assistance to the beneficiaries of Ri Bhoi district at a function held recently at Regional Poultry Breeding Farm in Kyrdemkulai.

Under the schemes of the Special Plan, dairies, piggery and poultry farming which include newly-introduced birds like emu, quail and turkey, would be provided to the farmers.

Emu is a flightless bird native to Australia and famously known to operate in pairs.
