SHILLONG: The KHADC has recently constituted a ‘Record Finding Committee’ of MDCs to gather land documents from the various Hima and Syiemship which would help the Council to get first-hand information about the ‘disputed’ areas along the inter-State border with Assam which are under its jurisdiction.

The committee, headed by KP Pangngiang, HSPDC MDC from Rambrai, has been given one-month time to collect various land documents including the maps and submit it to the Council. The committee would also consist of members of KSU and FKJGP, North Khasi Hills unit.

The committee was constituted during a recent meeting convened by KHADC CEM Pynshngaiñ N Syiem in the presence of Executive Member in charge Elaka Lamphrang Blah and representatives of Hima Raid Mynsaw, Langpih.

Expressing concern over rampant encroachment by the Assam Government on land under the jurisdiction of the Council, especially in Langpih in West Khasi Hills, Syiem said the land documents and maps would be crucial evidences to prove that the land being encroached falls under the jurisdiction of the KHADC.

Pangngiang, who is heading the committee, informed that the decision to constitute the committee was unanimous.

“The main job of the committee is to collect land documents and maps to outline the areas under the Council’s jurisdiction,” the Rambrai MDC said, adding that the documents would be very helpful for the State Government in resolving the long-pending boundary dispute with Assam.
