SHILLONG: The State government will shortly launch the Crime and Criminals Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), which will help police tackling crime-related cases.
Informing this, a highly-placed source from the IT department on Monday said that the work on the project has been going on.
It may be mentioend that the Union Minister of State for Home Jitendra Singh on Sunday had stated that the Centre would sanction hi-tech police stations all over the country soon under the CCTNS at a whopping budget of Rs 3,500 crore.
Sources, however, rued the fact that a meager amount of Rs 8 crore has been earmarked for Meghalaya.
The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has created the software required for the project.
The initial paper work for the project has already been done and under this project, all police stations would be linked and local police would no longer have to visit other States to get information about a case.
In the midst of all, many questions have also been raised on the sustainability of the CCTNS as earlier too the Common Integrated Police Application (CIPA) project failed to yield any positive result in the state. To make the project a success, the sources from the IT department believe that the police department should be bifucated once the system comes into force.
“A separate set of police personnel should be deputed for operating the system,” sources added.
