Kohima: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has expressed its willingness to construct the proposed four-lane highway connecting Dimapur to Kohima as well as the proposed Chiethu Airport near Kohima.

Additional Director General, BRO, Dr V K Yadav told the media on the sidelines of the ongoing Indian Roads Congress Council here on Friday that the BRO was willing to take over the projects and complete it if the state government was willing.

He said during a meeting with the Chief Secretary on Thursday he told him that since the state government wants to build an airport in Kohima, as stated by the chief minister, the BRO could take up and complete the task if the work is given to it.

He informed that the Nagaland government was preparing a Detail Project Report for four-laning of Dimapur-Kohima National Highway and that had been going on since the last two years.

The four-lane work was supposed to be done by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), but Dr Yadav said the BRO was of the opinion that the work should be done by them.

On whether the BRO was contemplating any special arrangements to study the sinking and landslide prone areas along the National Highways in the state, he said the BRO has already contacted MACCAFERI, which gave their presentation on Friday and BRO had asked them to visit the area while returning and make a survey and give suggestions on how to control it, Dr. Yadav said.
