SHILLONG: Acting on an FIR filed by a city based NGO Synjuk Riew Peitngor Hynniewtrep (SRPH), the police have questioned Bishnupur-Kench’s Trace Rangbah Shnong R Prestonard Syiem for allegedly issuing residential certificates to individuals who are members of the militant outfit GNLA.

“We have already questioned the Rangbah Shnong on the allegation and the police would continue its investigation in the matter,” Additional SP (Crime) Vivek Syiem said on Wednesday.

It may be mentioned that in the FIR, SRPH general secretary G Nongkynrih alleged that the Rangbah Shnong is indulging in rampant and illegal issuing of residential certificates to the people with doubtful antecedents.

“The Rangbah Shnong is charging between Rs 7000 to

Rs 10,000 for issuing the certificates,” Nongkynrih alleged.

To support their claim, the NGO also provided the copy of the certificates issued to the suspected GNLA cadre Balsri M Marak, Heloni Sangma (wife of Balsri M Marak) and Sharmila Boro (wife of another of GNLA cadre Vishal Hajong) who were arrested during the joint operation of the BSF and the State police on March 27 last.

When contacted, the Rangbah Shnong while admitting that he had issued the certificates to the three people stated that he had no clue that the three had links with the GNLA.

Syiem also refuted the allegation that he was charging Rs 7000 to Rs 10,000 for issuing a residential certificate adding that he had asked to pay them Rs 50 for the same which goes to the fund of the Dorbar Shnong.

“I have records in my register which would show the amount which they had paid for the residential certificates,” he added.

It may be recalled that Vishal and Balsri were apprehended from Barengpara village under Dalu.
