First batch of SSLC students felicitated

 JOWAI: The Tia Chaphrang Secondary School- a school in the remote and coal rich Sohkymphor village felicitated the first batch of the SSLC students who had come out sucessfully in the last SSLC results declared recently.

The Tia Chaphrang Secondary School was established in 2007 by a coal businessman, Protasius Suiam and his wife- a government LP School teacher, both of Sohkymphor village.

“I started the school to help children particularly those children of coal miners who could not afford to send their children to Jowai or Shillong”, Suiam said. “I am very happy to see that the school has progressed and produced the first fruit of its journey in the last SSLC examination.

The School proceeded to Secondary level in 2010 and 8 students appeared the last SSLC examination and all eight come out successfully in second division indicating cent percent passed. The school is a blessing not only to children of the village but to children of coal labourers working in various coal mines in the area.

The felicitation programme which was chaired by the Headmaster was attended by local MDC, Wanbiang Shadap as the chief guest, rangbah shnongs and village elders besides parents and students.
