Poachers target wild elephant

 SHILLONG: A wild elephant was reportedly fired upon by Bangladeshi poachers about 400 yards inside Bangladesh territory opposite of Jatrakona village, Distt West Garo Hills.

The elephant suffered four bullet injuries and the condition of the elephant was slated to be critical.

It is also learnt that one of the tusk (incisor) was cut by the Bangladeshi poachers. It is to mention that wild elephants do take shelter in jungles of Garohills and do cross over to Bangladesh in search of food.

The BGB has been apprised and requested to take action against alleged Bangladeshi poachers as protection of wild life is a commitment as per International convention
