JOWAI: In a bid to ease traffic congestion on the highway, all trucks and heavy vehicles plying on the National Highway would be issued stickers after their documents have been checked. This was decided in a recent meeting called by the IGP, Eastern Range with all the SPs of the area.

The stickers will be issued after proper verification of documents in presence of a Magistrate whenever mobile court is being conducted. This sticker will be valid in the state of Meghalaya and once pasted, the vehicle will not be checked at other check points.

“This exercise would ease traffic congestion along the highways and also ensure that only vehicles with valid documents ply on the road,” said SP O Pasi in a release issued here.

Stickers will be distributed to all SPs office and each sticker would cost Rs 100 which will be realised from heavy vehicles with valid documents”, the release added.

Same exercise will follow in East Khasi Hills , West Khasi Hills and Ri bhoi District.
