Shillong: The cleanest village in Asia and a popular tourist destination, Mawlynnong village, was hit by a severe storm on June 3 which damaged several houses including the famous guest house built entirely out of bamboo.

“A number of trees were also brought down by the strong winds that accompanied the storm,” Aaron Laloo, Rangbah Shnong of Mawlynnong village, said.

The Dorbar Shnong meanwhile, informed all visitors who wish to stay at Mawlynnong that alternate arrangements have been made for accommodation. The old guest house will also be rebuilt soon, Laloo informed.
