age system whose layout is aimed in the free flow of water away from the street comes to light whenever there is a heavy downpour in the city.

The consequent mess is undoubtedly no longer a joy as the splashing and accumulation of murky water everywhere has become a matter of disgust.

There are many junctions and areas in the city which gets submerged under water, thanks to the improper drainage system. There are instances which shadows the fact that floods are predominant in plains as this hilly region witnesses more flash floods than the low lying areas.

There are certain points like Dhankheti junction, Governor House point and even the Butcher road which gets partially submerged in water every time rains lash the streets.

The water clogging in small patches in several parts of Shillong, accompanied by dirt and mud is creating nuisance for residents.

“What is disgusting is the fact that this water clogging in junction is the dirt flowing from dustbins and the waste disposed nearby,” a shop owner in Luckier road said.

Although the Government and the concerned authorities have for long spoken about proper drainage system in certain areas, however there many areas in the city which needs immediate remedial steps on the part of the Government.

The little joy in this comes from vehicle owners who zoom past the little puddles, splashing water to the onlookers.

The situation in Luckier road junctions gets worst during rain as muddy water flows with full force due the ongoing Khyndailad stretch.

Since not much can be done about the Khyndailad beautification project, there is an urgent need fro the State Government to take measures.
