Bangalore: Karnataka Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda on Tuesday, refuting charges the BJP Government was ‘intentionally’ delaying the appointment of Lokayukta, said the state government was awaiting directions from the Supreme Court.
Defending his government, which has come under criticism from various organisations that have taken to a week-long agitation condemning the government apathy in appointing Lokayukta, Mr Gowda cited an application filed in the Supreme Court in this matter.
The appointment of a new Lokayukta, the anti-corruption watchdog, has been in a limbo in the state ever since last Lokayukta Justice Shivaraj Patil quit the post nearly a year ago.
Various organisations, including freedom fighters, farmers’ bodies and anti-corruption activists, under the leadership of former Lokayukta justice N Santosh Hegde have begun a week-long agitation at Freedom Park in the city on Monday to press the government to act on the appointment of the new Lokayukta.
