SHILLONG: The State NCP unit has denied reports that party leader Purno A Sangma has withdrawn from the race to the Rashtrapati Bhawan soon after the ruling UPA announced Pranab Mukherjee as their candidate for the post of President.

Conrad Sangma, when contacted, denied the report and said that the picture is still not clear as many UPA allies and even the Opposition are planning to put up their own candidates for the top post.

“Picture is still not clear and so we will wait and watch the series of events before taking any decision,” Conrad said.
