SHILLONG: Taking a strong note on the bikers zooming along the Cherrapunjee road, the Shillong Traffic police has warned the bikers not to indulge in such stunt activities.

The additional Superintendent of police (traffic) Herbert Lyngdoh on Sunday said, “We are aware that bikers do stunting in Mawkdok bridge and nearby areas and we will take stringent action against them.” It has been observed that on Sundays, bikers from Shillong do all kind of stunting like wheelies’, ‘stoppies’, ‘human compass’, ‘no handers’ along the Cherrapunjee road which has lead to accidents on many occasions.

According to Lyngdoh, the police is doing patrolling in the area but many times these bikers tend to run away as soon as they see the cops. “We will continue our action and stringent action will be taken if they are caught,” he added. In the bid to check the rash driving by the bikers along the city and the highways, the Shillong Traffic police (STP) had also launched the squads or crack units with officers on motorbikes carrying compounding books who compounds the stunt maniacs on the spot.

The STP earlier had also stated that strict action would also be taken against drivers of light vehicles who indulge in over speeding.

Besides this, the traffic police is also taking an initiative to carry out awareness programmes to educate people on safe and secure driving.
