Shillong: The FKJGP Mairang Circle recently apprehended two persons from NongSohma village in West Khasi Hills for allegedly raping and threatening to kill a 16 year old girl on June 9 at two different places in that district.

The apprehended persons were identified as Letkoder Marbaniang (20) and Hantibor Marbaniang (18) of NongSohma village.

According to the president of FKJGP Mairang Circle Bobby Basaiawmoit, Letkoder had invited the girl to his place while she was returning home with Letkoder’s sister. On reaching the house, the culprit chased his sister away and committed the heinous crime.

Scared and terrified, the girl returned to her house but on the way, she met Hantibor Marbaniang who promised to dropped her home but on reaching a quiet place near a jungle, he forcefully pulled the girl to the jungle and raped her and at the same time, threatened to kill her if she made any sound.

Immediately, after receiving complaints from the victim’s parents, the FKJGP went to the village and apprehended these two rapists while making them wear a placard and made them walk all around Mairang Town following of which, the two were later handed over to the Mairang Police station.

Meanwhile, FKJGP Mairang Circle and the CSWO (A) has condemned the autocratic action taken by the Dorbar Shnong NongSohma on Saturday against the family members of the victim who were issued a fine of Rs 5000 and had to face humiliation in front of the Dorbar.

It was learnt that the reason behind the issuance of the fine against the family members of the victim by the Dorbar Shnong was based on the ground that the victim didn’t inform the Dorbar about the incident but instead reported the matter to the police and the local NGOs.

The FKJGP Mairang Circle president, Bobby Basaiawmoit while condemning this act on the part of the Dorbar Shnong has questioned the Dorbar for its biasness stating that if the Dorbar could issue a fine of Rs 5000 to the family members of the girl simply for bypassing the Dorbar Shnong then why was the same punishment not meted out to the two culprits who had committed the heinous crime.

Taking strong cognizance, the two local NGOs had filed an FIR against the Sordar of NongSohma on Saturday itself at Mairang Police Station while urging the concerned authorities to take serious actions against the Sordar.
