Guwahati: The flood situation in Assam, especially lower Assam districts, continued to be grim, with six persons so far washed away by gushing waters.

One Bijay Das was washed away in Barpeta on Monday, taking the toll up to six.

Four women, including a minor, were drowned in Barpeta on Monday, while another child was earlier washed away by flood waters in Baksa district.

Flood waters continued to play havoc in as many as 14 districts, including North Lakhimpur, Darrang, Sonitpur, Dhemaji, Udalguri, Kokrajhar, Baksa, Kamrup and Barpeta.

Nearly 90,000 people and over 2500 families have been affected by the floods so far across the state.

Relief camps have been set up in several districts, including Barpeta, Udalguri, Darrang and Nalbari, and thousands of people are taking shelter in these camps.

Six mobile health teams have been deployed in Barpeta, while one such team has been deployed in Darrang to ensure no outbreak of any epidemic.

Roads, bridges and culverts have been washed away in many parts of the affected districts, snapping communication links. (UNI )
